Investment:\u00a0Two minute read<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a consistent question I get asked over time, by most everyone with whom I\u2019m in correspondence. You might think the question would be something akin to, \u201cHow do I create positive change?\u201d or \u201cHow do we use values explicitly in daily decision making?\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s not.\u00a0The question is more personal.\u00a0The question is consistently about my favorite complimentary close in correspondence, \u201cBE well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My choice is not a thoughtless habit, a short hand for \u201csincerely\u201d or \u201cbest wishes.\u201d This phrase is my favorite for a host of reasons, and I offer \u201cBE well\u201d consciously\u00a0each time.<\/em>\u00a0The question is, why? Why\u00a0this<\/em>\u00a0phrase \u201cBE well\u201d in\u00a0this<\/em>\u00a0way, and why\u00a0so<\/em>\u00a0consistently?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certainly, I wish health and wellness to folks, frankly to each person on earth.\u00a0Now, more than ever.\u00a0Wellness, good health is a blessing and critically important.\u00a0My learning about this allusion to wellness, \u201cBE well\u201d is clearer since dealing with cancer.\u00a0Now cancer free, strong, doing my work with leaders, this close is still an offer that goes beyond \u201cjust\u201d wellness of body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This closing phrase speaks to change and turning operational values into active verbs in decision making, and more. Without burdening you with grammar or platitudes, there is nuance here. The valediction is not \u201cbe well\u201d, \u201cbe WELL\u201d or \u201cBe Well.\u201d It is, BE well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what\u2019s the story? Why does \u201cBE well\u201d matter, and frankly, who cares?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. For over 38 years, my team and I have worked with leaders in a myriad of industries to accomplish successful transformational change. Our work has worked. It doesn\u2019t matter if our work is a restaurant start-up, or a turn around. It doesn\u2019t matter if our focus is in manufacturing growth, leadership development, or drama reduction in the work place. The age of the company, its leadership, or staff has been irrelevant. (Yes, this is true even with a seeming abyss between boomers and millennials and Z.)\u00a0Amazingly, the industry hasn\u2019t really mattered, either. Our work works.<\/li>
  2. What\u00a0has<\/em>\u00a0mattered is the ability for any one of us to step into change, to be mindful of the uncomfortable necessity that each of us faces if we choose to evolve ourselves individually or collectively as a company.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    For leaders in change, defining a sense of Purpose, what Simon Sinek calls \u201cWhy,\u201d is step one of the change process. Finding the bigger reason for the business is key. Here\u2019s an example:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re a manufacturing company. We make machines that support other businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My question is, what do the machines provide? Trust, confidence, safety, consistency? Sense of Purpose is to offer staff and customers alike the reality that, yes, we sell machines. However, what we really sell is trust, confidence, safety, and consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The power of Purpose based positioning is both subtle and expansive. Instead of working to build a machine and doing what the boss tells me to do, I have a higher calling in and through the effective construction of my machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What outcomes can we count on from working \u201con Purpose?\u201d\u00a0Team retention, error free production goes up, costs go down. Sales go up. Selling becomes a compelling story instead of a pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Full circle, with Purpose defined, we have a choice each day: be on purpose or not; use our values or not; be conscious or not. We want to inspire team members to\u00a0BE<\/em>\u00a0on Purpose!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Do you see the connection to my complimentary close?\u00a0On a daily basis, I do my best, to encourage folks, including myself, to BE on Purpose\u2026 to \u201cBE (on Purpose) well\u201d in every choice, in every action on a daily basis. \u201cBE well\u201d instead of rote, instead of unconscious. BE awake and BE mindful of all that\u2019s in front of each of us minute by minute. I appreciate you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
